I took a hiatus from writing anything about "politics" the past several months, (Maybe I should forever). The reason is that I became so disgusted by the 2012 presidential campaign and the media, which pitted two "establishment" politicians against each other, while several other viable candidates were discounted and left to "Blow into the wind," I just lost hope in the process. Some of my friends say it's because Obama was re-elected. I suppose I can't deny that to a degree. I am indeed disappointed. I think I assumed too much about the American public. I thought they knew what Obama was all about - the glad-hander that speaks out of the other side of his mouth. The politician that is attempting power grabs.
I was also disgusted by "Super-Pacs" that ganged up on candidates, throwing around innuendo and lies; news organizations that allegedly disseminated the news, with unbalanced and obviously a biased approach to an American institution. It has become the norm - sadly to say.
The truth is news organizations that have become the so-called, "owner of the airwaves," allow more exposure to the candidates that are funded enough to pay for the exorbitant advertising costs. "If you can't buy prime, don't get in line," is their motto.
Candidates must hop from town to town, or district to district for months, fundraising. They do the "Meet and Greet," thingy from one main street to the next until at last they may have enough dollars (and depending on the type of election involved) to pay for all those cute, catchy, or waah-whaa wu waah spots on TV that fill our living rooms with sleepy promises and unsubstantiated accusations. The cost of advertising has driven up the stakes until at last, the only ones able to run for office, and win, are the very people that don't even read bills introduced. They speak endlessly over issues that are a waste of taxpayer time, and continue to spend the rest of their time in office...wait for it...you got it...fundraising.
They vote party line, get involved with insider trading, exempt themselves from more taxes, while increasing public obligation, and live the life of aristocracy.
The government is like ravening wolves tearing apart the carcass. And though we responsibly attempt to facilitate change, the representation has discounted our marching orders. Is this is a reflection of, "We the people." Is this who we really are?
